The Qingming Festival is approaching, and it's time for tomb-sweeping and spring outings! Four experts from Xiangya Hospital of Central South University offer health reminders.
1. How to eat Qingming rice cakes? A digestive expert, Dr. Chen Shuijiao, suggests the "Three Principles.": Qingming rice cakes are a popular traditional food usually consumed in spring. Dr. Chen advises following the "Three Principles" when enjoying them: moderation, slow eating, and drinking water. Firstly, consume Qingming rice cakes in moderation to avoid indigestion. Secondly, savor each bite slowly to aid digestion. Finally, drinking water is essential as adequate hydration can promote intestinal motility, facilitating food digestion. By adhering to these "Three Principles", individuals can better enjoy Qingming rice cakes while maintaining digestive health.
Control on quantity: average individuals should consume two per day, while those with high fat levels should limit it to one.
Main food substitution: after eating green rice cakes, reduce rice intake to half and do not consider them as snacks.
Eat it hot: elderly and children should cut it into small pieces, as it is softer and easier to digest when hot.
Attention to individuals: patients with diabetes, gastric diseases, and pancreatitis should avoid consumption as much as possible.
Furthermore, in spring, health focuses on adapting to the season and balancing body and mind. Regarding diet, consider the following points: consume fewer acidic foods and more sweet ones, eat more seasonal products, choose light meals, avoid raw and cold foods, and be cautious when consuming wild vegetables.
How to care for joints while visiting tombs and walking in the countryside? Dr. Gao Shuguang, head of orthopedics, and chief nurse Peng Lingli provide advice.
When going up and down hills: walk in a "Z" shape; lean forward when descending and support yourself with the distal part of your thigh.
When kneeling: place a soft object under your knees; when getting up, lean to one side and support yourself with one hand on the ground, using that force to stand up.
Lifting objects: use two bags lifted with both hands; do not apply force solely from one side.
When returning home: soak feet in warm water, perform straight leg raises, and do wall-supported static squats.
Clothing: Dress in layers like an onion, ensuring protection for knees, shoulders, and neck.
Shoes: wear supportive, non-slip, and cushioned sneakers.
Local heat application: When joints are cold or stiff, apply a self-heating patch or a heating pad (using a layer of clothing) to warm them, or rub hands until warm and massage the knee.
3. What to do in case of pollen allergy? Deputy Director of the Pharmacology Department, pharmacist Xiao Di, offers advice.
Oral antihistamines: Loratadine, cetirizine, among others, relieve sneezing, runny nose, nasal itching, and eye itching.
Nasal corticosteroids: Budesonide, mometasone, relieve nasal congestion in moderate to severe allergic rhinitis.
Remember: If symptoms are severe or uncertain, seek medical attention immediately.
The diet should be moderate, dress appropriately in spring, and take measures to prevent allergies.
Xiangya Medical Center of Central South University wishes you a happy and healthy celebration.
